Capacity building

Capacity building projects

At GLOBALG.A.P., we believe that every generation has a right to safe food. To protect this right now and for future generations, the world’s farms must produce safe food in ways that are socially and environmentally responsible and resilient. GLOBALG.A.P. views global partnerships as crucial to achieving this goal, which is why we contribute to capacity building projects worldwide. These projects help strengthen the agricultural sector by developing and upscaling local expertise, encouraging farmers to adopt safe and responsible practices, and connecting them to regional and international markets.

A collaborative approach to upscaling expertise

What are capacity building projects?

GLOBALG.A.P. capacity building activities aim to raise awareness of responsible farming practices and facilitate their implementation on the ground through the transfer or strengthening of skills, knowledge, and resources. In partnership with organizations around the world, including our community members, the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat participates in goal-oriented projects that create a tangible impact on the local agricultural sector.

Why are capacity building projects important?

The agriculture and agribusiness sectors provide vital employment in both rural and urban areas of many countries, contributing to improved livelihoods around the world.
Capacity building projects can strengthen these sectors and have a lasting legacy on local communities – particularly in terms of economic impact and food security.

How do capacity building projects make an impact?

Dedicated capacity building projects that promote safe, socially and environmentally responsible farming practices help to protect producers from potential risks and enhance food security for the region and supply chains as a whole.

Furthermore, professional guidance on the benefits of primary production certification – and the pathway to achieving it – can lead to increased access to national and international markets, improving their income opportunities and stimulating national economic growth.

How does GLOBALG.A.P. contribute to capacity building projects?

GLOBALG.A.P. standards offer one of the most respected and internationally recognized forms of certification for the global trade of farmed products, counting over 200,000 certificate holders around the world.

Providing targeted training, mentoring, and guidance to producers about GLOBALG.A.P. certification in their local context is instrumental to making their practices safer and more sustainable, contributing to a gradual transformation of our food system.

The GLOBALG.A.P. capacity building team looks to provide support on local, national, and international levels, whether it be connecting local producers with key supply chain actors in their regions, facilitating the exchange of information and experience between countries, or collaborating on large-scale international development projects.

Sustainable Development Goal 17

How do partnerships contribute to successful projects?

Together we can achieve more: By leveraging networks and combining resources, we can have a greater impact. We invite you to collaborate with us in the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goal 17 and create powerful partnerships to make agricultural value chains more sustainable and inclusive.

Sustainable Development Goals

GLOBALG.A.P. and the Sustainable Development Goals

At GLOBALG.A.P. we aim to advance safer, more sustainable farming worldwide. Recognizing the multifaceted nature of this, we have established connections to several key topics in the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals and consistently look to support these with our actions.

Accelerating progress together

GLOBALG.A.P. as a capacity building partner

Continuously improved over the last 25 years, GLOBALG.A.P. standards are some of the most respected and widely used primary production standards in the sector, contributing to safer, more sustainable farming practices in conventional agriculture. Yet we recognize that widespread impact is best achieved through collaboration and mutual support, which is why we continually invest our efforts in the capacity building projects of our partners around the world.
