40th edition of IPM Essen concludes

Coming to a close on 26 January in Essen, Germany, IPM 2024 proved to be a key event for the global horticulture industry, welcoming more than 36,000 visitors. For the 40th time now, the trade fair served as a vibrant platform for networking, exchanging knowledge, and showcasing the latest innovations in the green sector.

GLOBALG.A.P. booth highlights

At the heart of the event, the joint booth of GLOBALG.A.P. and GGN label brands stood out as a hub of activity. Located in the BGI Trade Center section, the booth attracted a diverse range of visitors, from existing partners to potential collaborators eager to explore our solutions for responsible farming.
Throughout the fair, experts from GLOBALG.A.P. and GGN label brands led informative sessions in both English and German, spotlighting key initiatives such as the GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practices (GRASP), the Impact-Driven Approach to Sustainability (IDA), and a comprehensive super-session covering IFA v6, GRASP, IDA, and SPRING.

Notable activities

Beyond the booth, GLOBALG.A.P. experts made significant contributions to the broader conversations on sustainability within the industry. This included our sponsorship of the Sustainability category at the AIPH International Grower of the Year Awards, underscoring our commitment to excellence in ornamentals production. GLOBALG.A.P. and GGN label representative Sarah von Fintel had the honor of presenting the award to the winners, Greenwood Plants Ltd, in recognition of their dedication to sustainable practices.
Sarah also participated in a panel discussion hosted by Industrieverband Garten e.V. (IVG), addressing the challenges and opportunities associated with certifying sustainability criteria in the green sector.

Industry interactions

Throughout the fair, GLOBALG.A.P. experts engaged with producers and stakeholders alike, fostering meaningful discussions on the future of sustainability requirements in floriculture, in particular with the Floriculture Sustainability Inititiative (FSI) and the Dutch Association of Wholesalers in Floricultural Products (VGB).
Interactions ranged from exploring the significance of the GGN label to delving into the upcoming version of the Integrated Farm Assurance standard for plant propagation material.

Lasting impressions

As IPM Essen 2024 draws to a close, GLOBALG.A.P. and the GGN label brands remain at the center of discussions surrounding more sustainable floriculture, smarter certification, and digital record-keeping solutions within the floriculture landscape.
We remain committed to driving positive change within the sector and look forward to seeing you at next year’s event, 28–31 January 2025 !
