An impactful Fruit Logistica 2024

With this year’s theme “the heartbeat of the fresh produce business,” Fruit Logistica 2024 set the stage for tens of thousands of people from across the fresh produce supply chain to connect, network, and discover the latest developments and innovations in the industry.

From 7 to 9 February, experts representing the GLOBALG.A.P. brand joined over 2,700 exhibitors in Berlin for the annual trade fair. With more than 66,000 trade visitors from 145 countries, various cross-sector perspectives enriched the three-day event.

Topics at Fruit Logistica 2024

GLOBALG.A.P. c/o FoodPLUS GmbH hosted a booth in Hall 27 of Messe Berlin throughout the fair, where our experts enjoyed seeing familiar faces as well as connecting with potential partners interested in our smart farm assurance solutions.

The team held productive meetings on a wide range of topics, including version 6 of our flagship Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) standard for fruit and vegetables, supply chain opportunities with the GLOBALG.A.P. Chain of Custody (CoC) standard, consumer labeling with the GGN label, and two newly updated add-ons – GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP) version 2 and Sustainable Program for Irrigation and Groundwater Use (SPRING) version 2.

Water management was an especially important subject this year, with many productive conversations centered around legal water use, water management in critical regions – and the SPRING add-on, which addresses responsible water management at farm level.

GLOBALG.A.P. hosts panel discussion

The topic of water management was further explored at the panel discussion hosted by GLOBALG.A.P. c/o FoodPLUS GmbH on day two of the trade fair, when stakeholders from around the world gathered to share cross-sector perspectives on “Addressing responsible water management in high water risk regions”.

The panel was made up of six industry experts representing both producer and retailer sectors as well as certification bodies, media, NGOs, and GLOBALG.A.P. technical experts. Moderated by journalist and Fruitnet Media International CEO Chris White, the event included productive conversations in a roundtable format, showcasing the panelists’ numerous valuable insights on the future of water management in crucial agricultural regions. Over 100 individuals attended the panel discussion, where key topics included water legislation, water scarcity, sustainable watershed governance, water distribution and measurement systems, waste management, and more.

“The event posed a unique opportunity for experts from across the value chain to share their experiences, perspectives, and potential solutions regarding the water challenges facing our industry today,” said panelist and GLOBALG.A.P. representative Alexandre Garcia-Devis Flores following the panel discussion. “Looking forward, collaboration between producers, civil society, retailers, technology and service providers, NGOs, and governments is essential for a resilient agricultural sector.”

Following the panel discussion, our team held a lively community event at our booth to continue the important conversations surrounding water management. Learn more about the details of the panel discussion here.

Takeaway

Overall, Fruit Logistica 2024 proved to be a key event in advancing safer and more sustainable farming practices in the fresh produce sector. We are grateful for all the rewarding conversations and connections, and we look forward to continuing our efforts in the industry. See you next year at Fruit Logistica 2025!
