Meet the panelists

On 23 April 2024 at Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, Spain, five panelists will take to the stage to discuss responsible aquaculture supply chains and the evolving transparency and traceability requirements from farm to consumer.

About the event

Hosted by GLOBALG.A.P. and titled “Responsible aquaculture supply chains: Addressing evolving transparency requirements from farm to consumer”, the panel discussion, will showcase the cross-sector perspectives of industry experts from the entire aquaculture value chain. Panelists from the producer and supplier sector, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), a prominent NGO, as well as a GLOBALG.A.P. representative will come together to explore the crucial topic of supply chain legislation in Europe, the EU, and beyond, as well as the role of certification in supporting responsible aquaculture practices.

Director of Eurofish

Marco Frederiksen is the director of Eurofish International Organisation. Eurofish contributes to the development of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors in Europe and has thirteen member countries (Albania, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain and Türkiye). Marco has a master’s degree in fishery technology from Aalborg University and a Ph.D. in seafood traceability from the Technical University of Denmark and has been working at Eurofish since 2008. Since he joined the organisation he has been involved in project acquisition and execution, a vital source of the organisation’s funding, and the means to provide benefits to the Eurofish member countries. Before joining Eurofish he worked at DTU Food, a department at the Technical University of Denmark for several years with secondments to Japan and Australia.

Deputy Director of the Fisheries ans Aquaculture Division and Secretary of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI)

Audun has been with FAO for more than 25 years, where he is currently the Deputy Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division and Secretary of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI). Audun was for many years also the Secretary of FAO’s Sub-Committee on Fish Trade (COFI:FT), the main international body for discussion and recommendations on trade and market issues in the sector, as well as the Coordinator of the GLOBEFISH project.

His thematic work areas include policy issues related to international trade and market access, international trade agreements, commodity price trends and price indexes, market-based instruments, social responsibility, certification, traceability, trade and food security, gender issues, and domestic and regional market development. Before joining FAO, he worked as an independent agribusiness consultant, project manager at Norway’s Embassy in Italy, and financial analyst on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Audun has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences from the Sea Fisheries Institute in Poland, a Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics.

Dawn Purchase began her career at the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) in 2003 and has worked on all aspects of the Aquaculture and Fisheries Programme. She now holds the role of Aquaculture Programme Manager.

Dawn developed the MCS Aquaculture Programme in 2005 commencing with the Principles and Criteria for Sustainable Fish Farming, a document that set out MCS definitions and guidelines for best environmental practice for UK marine finfish farming. Since then Dawn has held positions on the Standards Oversight Committee for Global Aquaculture Alliance; Director on the board for IFFO RS Responsible Feed Standard and as a Steering Board Member of the Aquaculture Stewardship Councils Feed Standard.

Dawn currently represents NGO’s on Scottish aquaculture policy forums as well as advising the supply chain on farmed seafood procurement policies and on-going research into best environmental practice for the future of aquaculture. She is current on the Advisory Board for the Scottish Government’s Vision for Sustainable Aquaculture.

Dawn graduated in 2003 with an MSc in Coastal Zone Management from Bournemouth University, previous to her first degree in Geology with Biology Dawn had 12 years business experience.

Teresa Fernandez

Sustainability Senior Manager at Hilton Foods

Teresa is the Sustainability Senior Manager for Seafood and Crops for Hilton Foods Ltd. Her background is in aquaculture production and wild capture fisheries supply chains.

She is currently responsible for the implementation of the Hilton Foods Sustainable Protein plan covering people, planet and product, within Hilton Foods seafood and crops supply chains.

Carlos Tavares Ferreira

Sustainability and Quality Director at Stolt Sea Farm

Carlos Tavares has more than 25 years of experience dealing with sustainability issues and has accompanied the activities of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the Forest Stewardship Council, among other international organizations. He is currently the Director of Sustainability at Stolt Sea Farm.

Remko has extensive experience in the fields of aquaculture and certification. As Key Account Manager Aquaculture at GLOBALG.A.P. c/o FoodPLUS GmbH, Remko is responsible for the global aquaculture strategy. He does so through raising awareness of GLOBALG.A.P. certification and the GGN label initiative among stakeholders throughout the supply chain. His passion for promoting the sustainable use of our planet's resources and thereby protecting the environment is an important driver for him in his role.
